Population Pyramids
Turkmenistan is currently in stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Model. The birth rate for the country if much higher than the death rate leading to a large population growth. This infers that advanced medical technology only recently became widely available in the country allowing there to be less death from infectious diseases. People are still having many children as there remains a high infant mortality rate and most people still depend on agriculture. As a result, women have many children in order to have a larger free work force of healthy individuals. The death rate has seen a dramatic decrease due to the construction of more hospitals and there being more vaccines. The high natural increase and population growth indicate Turkmenistan in the second level of the Demographic Transition Model.
